Daryl Paulin, President Candidate

What an exciting time of year it is… Election Time!! The majority of candidates who run for BUSU positions are genuinely interested in creating an amazing learning environment for all students. I am now thrilled to be one of those genuinely passionate candidates, and look forward to the opportunity to prove it.

With me, you’ll find a person who had dedicated most of his Brock life to ensuring that students graduate with more than just an education, but with many life changing/building experiences. It is those experiences that really mold students into well-rounded, successful adults.

I would like to think that I lead by example and that should I become your next BUSU President, I would continue to provide and support all of the extra-curricular activities, services, and events that our University has to offer our student body.

Come out and VOTE! Your voice matters.

~Daryl

Lianne Bradley, President Candidate

Hi Fellow Badgers,
My name is Lianne Bradley and I am running for re-elected as BUSU President! I believe I can bring two very important attributes to the position: experience and dedication. Having someone with experience will allow for more allocation of time for change instead of focusing on learning. I am looking forward to using my experience to implement new services like MAPS, ASEC, One Bit at a Time, and Badger Books. I also want to make some drastic changes to our Health Plan program, and Isaacs Army, and fight to address environmental and accessibility issues. I absolutely loved my job last year, and loved representing all of you as your President! Please come out, get informed, and remember TO VOTE!

Students settle for what they have instead of fighting for what they want! Join me in the journey to make a proactive, and more informed student body!

Sohail Ahmed, President Candidates

It’s been too long since big ideas like the U-Pass, the first Students Centre, and The Brock Press came out of BUSU! The Presidents who brought big ideas to BUSU were the ones who did it right. As your BUSU Vice President for 10/11, I brought you big things like Viva La Brock, a national award winning Shinerama Campaign, a Guinness World Record, a 24-Hour Commons for 2011, the Clubs Referendum and Red Frogs. As your BUSU President, it will be my job to support the smaller projects, but it will be my focus to bring you “The Next Big Thing”. Check out www.Sohail.ca to find out what my BIG ideas are for Brock!

Sohail Ahmed

Michael Tung, VPFA Candidate

My name is Michael Tung and I’m in my second year of Business Economics. I am running for Vice President of Finance and Administration because it fits my strengths the best. I decided to run for election literally three weeks before the week of nominations started because, I was convinced by the experience you can gain and the changes I can help make from any of the executive positions. My motto in life is, “learn while you can, so when the opportunity comes, you don’t miss out”. To me, that’s what I live by and it takes so much discipline to not let things pass you by. I really struggled to not let this chance pass me by, but surprisingly when I pitched this idea to my friends and family they gave me a warm smile and said go for it!

Sebastian Prins, VPFA Candidate

Saving your dollars! I plan to reduce the costs associated with contracts, fix U-Pass issues for students with parking passes, and streamline organizational policies. Notwithstanding all that, I've got experience! Having done everything from drafting policy and strategic documents for the Business Students' Association, to representing your interests to university executives, and lobby organizations.

But it's not just about saving! It's also about being fiscally responsible with the dollars we already have! I plan on moving towards a project management system, increasing our task and budget measurability as well as ensuring greater project accountability.

Christopher Lindley, VPSS Candidate

My beliefs stem from a deep sense of pride for Brock. I want to make Brock a better experience for students and provide future generations the base to create a tradition rich university. I am a fourth year student and have witnessed and been involved in the ups and downs of a lot of Brock's and Brock related events. I know that the only way to make Brock better is to listen to the students. I have a few ideas that I think could be successful, but ultimately it is up to the students. It is up to the students to participate, to gain knowledge, and be active in their community. It will be my job to provide students not only to become active, but to be successful and feel like there time is not wasted on such events. Come speak with me more throughout the campaign, and remember... VOTE!!!!!!

Thank you
Christopher Lindley

Kenneth (Ken) Truong, VPSS Candidate

I was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario for my whole life until going to Brock University. And I must say, it’s been the best choice I have ever made. I am currently in the third year of studies as a BBA student and the experiences gained at Brock have been quite vast – I have grown so much since beginning my studies at Brock and met many interesting people at this school.

I am running for VPSS because I truly enjoy working with the students at Brock and making the most of their experience at Brock. I am also a huge advocate of clubs and I plan to increase BUSU’s club support. Being a president of a club myself, I find that BUSU’s support for clubs at Brock is rather lacking... and I want to change that.

Rox Chwaluk, VPSS Candidate

Hey Brock!! What?s up!! I?m Rox, and I?m ready to ROCK as your V.P.S.S.

My platform focuses on 4 things

  1. Create events that bridge the gap between Brock University and the St. Catharines Community.
  2. Create and maintain events that help bring together ALL Brock students. This includes International Students, Brock Off Campus students, Students That Commute, and On Campus Students.
  3. All B.U.S.U. events, activities, and initiatives will be environmentally sensible.
  4. Use your input and turn it into action.

  5. 1 Poster Campaign
As per my platform, I find it important to consider the environment before the execution of any initiatives. You can find my 1 poster (which is a traveling poster) in either Academic South or Mac A Block. This poster allows you to write answers to the question "What do you want". This will help me better prepare for events next year!

    PEACE!

    Daud Grewal, VPUA Candidate

If a student has been academically mistreated by anyone in this University I want to make sure they know where to go. I want to create an ‘Academic Advocacy Office’ on campus and drive BUSU`s energy to promote the rights and responsibilities of students. I want to secure space on campus to begin the expansion of our students union building to include more open space, more club space, and improve our food services. My vision for the Niagara community is to make sure that every resident embraces Brock University and its students. We must distil some of the negative feelings local residents have towards our students. Finally, I want to improve student housing to assure that minimum fire and safety codes are being upheld.

    Deniz Ozturk, VPUA Candidate

"My platform is based upon not only students' wants and needs, but also student advocacy. "Be the Change" refers to realizing the voice and influence you have as a university student - and embracing it to the fullest. Not only do I want to hear students' concerns, but also engage people in thinking "what is the remedy?". Many of us are aware of the problems and no one has all the answers, but together, we can find the appropriate prescriptions. The VPUA position deals with both internal and external bodies. The focus of the VPUA must be weighed between issues that apply to all university students as a whole, while not underestimating those concerns that are unique to Brock students. I seek to find the balance between the two. Professional and sensible. Cooperative, but determined."

    Luke Speers, VPUA Candidate

The VPUA is the student?s representative to the government and the university.

I am the right candidate for VPUA because of my extensive experience within BUSU, and with the political process. At BUSU I am on the Board of Directors, the Vice-Chairman of the Finance Committee, the Chairman of the Nominations Committee, a member of the Elections Committee, a Foot Patrol, Frosh week and Frost week volunteer, and the BUSAC representative for Off Campus Undergraduate students. I have worked for both Brock and the government as well as been part of municipal, provincial and federal election campaigns as well as working for Elections Ontario and Elections Canada. I believe these experiences as well my double major of Philosophy and Political Science makes me the best candidate for the job.

Thanks and have a great semester

Adam Venning is a second year Philosophy major with a minor in Business. During his past two years at Brock University, Adam has served as a Humanities Representitive to BUSAC, a Don in residence and a member of Brock's first fraternity. Adam cares deeply about BUSU and the Brock population as a whole and believes that, as an active member of the school, he understand the needs of Brock students. His promise to you is that he will do everything in his power to ensure the best possible university experience for all Brock students.

Byron Krauskopf, Board of Directors Candidate

Hello, I am Byron Krauskopf and I am running for the BUSU Board of Directors. This is my 5th year at Brock and I am currently a 4th year History Major. Jason Freeze, Board of Directors Candidate

Hello, my name is Jason Freeze. This year I will be running for one of the Director of the Board positions. I am a 4th year Business, Operations major and I currently sit on BUSAC as a Business Councillor. I have been trying to make a difference on campus by sitting on the Environmental Committee and as VP of Environmental Justice with the new club IMSEEJ. This year I will continue to strive to make a difference on campus by promoting the new Green levy and other Green initiatives, fighting student apathy through information, and making our services work for you. For more information, please feel free to check out my Facebook fan page or add me on Twitter. Let’s make a difference!

Minhal Quadri, Board of Directors Candidate

Honest, passionate and driven are words used to describe Ghandi. They’re also used to describe me…or so I’d like to think. When elected to the BUSU Board of Directors, I will use these traits to ensure that I make all decisions with the student body in mind and represent all undergrads to the best of their interests. I refuse to conform! Decisions on the Board of Directors should be unbiased! So when you go to vote, Vote Real. Vote Minhal.

    Fee Replacement Referendum

The Fee Replacement referendum is all about taking existing fees you pay for buildings, capital and renovations, and turning them into $5.00 of fees we can use in a much smarter way, to benefit you, the student.

We can improve and properly fund our clubs, with club funding increasing by 500%, and dedicated club software and training. We can become more environmentally friendly, reduce waste and fund sustainable groups and practices. We can allow BUSU to provide more services such as legal aid, a crisis help line, and tax clinics, bigger events, and provide better volunteer recognition.

And we can do all of this, for the same amount you pay this year. Smarter fees. Better BUSU. Visit www.smartfees.ca or contact Rob Lanteigne at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.

    Student Justice Center Referendum

We are students supporting social justice at Brock University. We are advocating for a ‘safer’ space on campus, one where inclusivity is practiced. A social justice center at Brock would serve as a centre to educate and advocate for student who deal with a lack of societal acceptance as a result from sexism, racism, homophobia and other forms of prejudice. Our goal is to create a safe space on campus, a Social Justice Centre that is a student funded, BUSU operated, volunteer driven, non profit campus organisation.
